The 2022–2023 Grant Wood Art Colony Exhibition Catalog
Publication (2023) The catalog for the exhibition of work from the 2022–2023 Grant Wood Art Colony fellows — Johanna Winters and Michael Dixon. While inhabiting the same gallery and at times living side-by-side, Winters’s sculptures and videos and Dixon’s paintings were disparate works, demanding different viewing experiences. For the exhibition, the artwork was arranged and installed to accomodate those different viewing experiences and the design of the catalog reflects that approach. While sharing the same layout and typesetting, the publication utilizes a tête-bêche (French meaning “head-to-toe”) — the binding technique where two separate contents share a common spine, each with its own front cover. When you finish viewing and reading the catalog for one artist’s work, you flip the book over to read the other.
The center spread features an essay on each artist written by Sarah Minor.
