FREE Banned Books!
Publication series (2025–ongoing) FREE Banned Books! is an ongoing publication series consisting of the re-design, re-printing, and re-distribution of copyright-expired books that, in today’s cultural and political climate, run the risk of being banned from schools and libraries. This project is a response to the increase in attempts to ban and censor books by advocacy groups, politicians, and parent associations.
Pictured here are copies of the first three books of the series placed into a Little Free Library as a means to freely distribute them. Book 01 is the memoir of Matthew Henson, a Black explorer and the first American to reach the North Pole; Book 02 is the first autobiography of a transgender person, Jennie June; and Book 03 is the collection of essays written by the anarchist revolutionary and activist Emma Goldman. The first editions are printed in a run of 30 books each. A project website and poster series are forthcoming.
To purchase copies of the books, visit their individual pages in the Press section or keep an eye out for copies in a Little Free Library near you.
